The VLF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to promoting, through philanthropy, the Rule of Law, access to justice, and law-related education. Through the generosity of our Fellows, donors, and supporters, the Foundation has awarded more than $29.4 million in grants to underwrite projects that facilitate our mission throughout the Commonwealth. Virginia CLE®, is the continuing legal education division of the VLF, and is the leading provider of continuing education to the Virginia legal community.
The Vice President of Continuing Legal Education (VP, CLE) is a key leadership role responsible for the strategic and operational oversight of multiple departments within the Foundation. The VP, CLE will assist the Board, the CEO and senior leadership to ensure the VLF continues to be the premier provider of legal education in the Commonwealth of Virginia by enhancing our existing programs and further developing high-quality continuing legal education content and program delivery excellence.
The successful applicant will work on-site four days per week at our beautiful office in Charlottesville, Virginia, and will work remotely on Fridays, if desired. Our full-time team members enjoy a competitive salary and an outstanding benefits package, which includes:

Position Summary
The VP, CLE is a key leadership role responsible for the strategic and operational oversight of multiple departments within the Foundation, including CLE Seminars, Publications, Distance Learning, and Customer Support. The VP, CLE will work closely with the Board, the CEO and other members of senior leadership to ensure alignment of CLE operations with the Foundation’s mission, driving expansion and excellence in our continuing legal educational and publications offerings, and ensuring the highest levels of customer engagement and satisfaction. Residency in the metropolitan area of Charlottesville, Virginia will be required. Competitive annual base salary range of $125,000 to $145,000, commensurate with experience.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Education Required
Education:
- Juris Doctor (JD)
Experience:
- Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in legal education, publications, or a related field, with proven leadership experience
Skills:
- Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams
- Strong understanding of CLE accreditation processes and legal industry trends
- Experience in digital learning platforms, publishing, and content delivery technologies
- Experience working with non-profit organizations, bar associations, or legal education providers
- Familiarity with legal writing, editing, and publishing best practices
- Knowledge of marketing and audience engagement strategies for educational content
- Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement abilities
- Proven track record of revenue generation and program growth

Responsibilities
Leadership and Strategy:
- Lead, manage, and inspire teams across the following departments: CLE Seminars, Publications, Distance Learning, and Customer Support.
- Assist the Board and the CEO in developing and implementing strategic plans to meet the Foundation’s goals and ensure alignment across departments.
- Collaborate with the Board and senior leadership to refine the Foundation’s vision and mission, driving priorities and initiatives to achieve organizational success.
- Establish and enhance positive relationships with stakeholders, board members, elected officials, and key constituents.
- Develop and manage departmental budgets, monitor expenses, and optimize resource allocation.
Continuing Legal Education (CLE) and Distance Learning:
- Provide strategic leadership to and oversee the CLE Seminars and Distance Learning Departments, ensuring the development of high-quality continuing legal education content and program delivery excellence.
- Expand the organization’s reach through innovative virtual learning solutions as well as in-person seminar offerings.
- Conduct market research and analysis on legal education trends, competitor offerings, and partner with legal professionals, institutions, and other experts to develop exceptional programming.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to analyze all virtual and in-person programming to ensure optimal return on investment by developing competitive pricing to support seminar and distance learning program delivery.
Publications:
- Provide strategic leadership to and oversee the Publications Department in the creation and distribution of legal content, ensuring accuracy, relevance, and timeliness to the Virginia legal community.
- Enhance the Foundation’s portfolio of legal publications and ensure they remain trusted and sought-after resources for legal professionals.
- Analyze all publications and vendor relationships to ensure optimal return on investment.
Customer Support:
- Ensure that Customer Support Specialists are enabled to provide outstanding customer service through being well trained, adept at systems navigation, sufficiently knowledgeable about program offerings, and able to address a broad range of customer questions, concerns, and technical issues.
- Review technology solutions to optimize customer experience.
