Senior Director of IT & Digital Operations
The Virginia Law Foundation (VLF) is seeking a Senior Director of IT & Digital Operations. This role is responsible for the strategic leadership and operational management of the Virginia Law Foundation’s (VLF) information technology systems, digital infrastructure, PCI compliance and technology-driven processes. This role ensures the efficient, secure, and innovative use of technology to support the organization’s goals, improve operations, and enhance user experiences. Oversees and is responsible for IT contract lifecycles, ensuring compliance and mitigating potential risks. The ideal candidate is a visionary technology leader with a solution-oriented mindset, a passion for innovation, and a strong awareness of contemporary technology trends to lead the organization’s modernization efforts.
The VLF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to promoting, through philanthropy, the Rule of Law, access to justice, and law-related education. Through the generosity of our Fellows, donors, and supporters, the Virginia Law Foundation has awarded more than $30 million in grants to underwrite projects that facilitate our mission throughout the Commonwealth. Our education division, Virginia CLE, is the leading provider of continuing legal education.
The salary range is $90,000 to $125,000, and the successful applicant will work on-site four days per week at our office in Charlottesville and will work remotely on Fridays, if desired. Our full-time team members enjoy a competitive salary and an outstanding benefits package, which includes:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Planning and Leadership
- Develop and implement the organization’s IT and digital operations strategy in alignment with business objectives.
- Identify opportunities to leverage technology to drive innovation, enhance efficiency, and deliver exceptional services.
- Stay ahead of emerging technology trends to ensure the organization remains competitive and sustainable.
- Provide courteous, prompt, reliable IT support to staff to maximize efficiencies.
I.T. Infrastructure Management,
- Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of the organization’s IT systems, networks, infrastructure, and VOIP phone system.
- Ensure the reliability, scalability, and security of IT operations to support the organization’s growth and operations.
- Manage relationships with technology vendors, consultants, and service providers; regularly reviews vendor contracts to ensure compliance
- Lead digital initiatives to optimize processes, improve user experiences, and enhance service delivery.
- Oversee the organization’s data strategy, ensuring the secure collection, storage, and utilization of data. Establish and maintain a robust knowledge management program.
- Support organizational leadership via the implementation of tools and processes for data-driven decision-making and performance tracking.
- Collaborate across departments to integrate technology solutions that address organizational challenges and opportunities.
- Develop and implement robust cybersecurity strategies to protect the organization’s data, systems, and digital assets and take immediate action on any findings from website scans. Establish appropriate disaster recovery policies and documented procedures.
- Ensure ongoing backup systems and redundancies are in place and operational.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and ensure compliance with applicable data protection regulations.
- Respond promptly to IT incidents, including system outages and security breaches.
- Conduct routine PCI scans and oversee all cybersecurity, including vulnerability remediation, security policies, compliance, incident response, and staff training as necessary
- Oversee all server infrastructure and management, including coordination with server providers to ensure compliance with security standards, proactive maintenance, and timely resolution of performance issues
- Manage all website domains and plugin subscriptions, ensuring no interruption to site functionality
- Coordinate website content, updates, and maintenance with marketing and website contractors as needed
Team Leadership and Collaboration
- Train, lead, develop, and manage I.T. staff fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and professional excellence.
- Act as a key advisor to senior leadership on technology trends and strategic opportunities.
- Communicate complex technical concepts in a clear and accessible manner to non-technical audiences.
Evaluation and Improvement
- Monitor, collect, and analyze user feedback and program delivery data to assess systems and technology effectiveness, adjusting as needed to enhance organizational performance.
Budgeting and Financial Management
- Oversee IT projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.
- Develop and manage the IT budget, prioritizing investments that align with long-term organizational goals and resource constraints.
- Monitor financial performance and identify cost-saving opportunities.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Education: Associate’s degree or graduation from an accredited technical program with a certificate in I.T., digital technology or a related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Certification: CompTIA, CISSP, ITIL, PMP, CITM, CAPM, CRISC, and COBIT 5 Foundation preferred
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in information technology, management of digital operations, or related field, with a minimum of 2 years in a leadership role. Proven track record in leading I.T. transformation initiatives and managing scalable technology projects.
