The VLF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to promoting, through philanthropy, the Rule of Law, access to justice, and law-related education. Through the generosity of our Fellows, donors, and supporters, the Foundation has awarded more than $29.4 million in grants to underwrite projects that facilitate our mission throughout the Commonwealth. Virginia CLE®, is the continuing legal education division of the VLF, and is the leading provider of continuing education to the Virginia legal community.
The Senior Director of Seminars is responsible for the strategic planning, development, execution, and evaluation of the Virginia Law Foundation’s (VLF) comprehensive CLE programs for legal professionals. The Senior Director of Seminars leads a team of five program professionals and works closely with the CEO, senior management, and the Board’s CLE Committee to ensure alignment between the VLF’s mission, goals, objectives, and legal education operations.
The successful applicant will work on-site four days per week at our beautiful office in Charlottesville, Virginia, and will work remotely on Fridays, if desired. Our full-time team members enjoy a competitive salary and an outstanding benefits package, which includes:

Position Summary
The Senior Director of Seminars is responsible for the strategic planning, development, execution, and evaluation of the Virginia Law Foundation’s (VLF) comprehensive CLE programs for legal professionals. This role involves leading a team to deliver high-quality, highly relevant educational seminars, ensuring compliance with CLE accreditation standards, and fostering partnerships to expand program reach and impact. Responsibilities also include fiscal management of programs as well as oversight of venues and related contracts. Residency in the metropolitan area of Charlottesville, Virginia will be required. Competitive annual base salary range of $105,000 – $125,000, commensurate with experience.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Education Required
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in legal studies, education/training, business administration, or a related field (Juris Doctor or master’s degree preferred). A combination of education and directly related experience may be considered.
Experience:
Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in continuing legal education, professional development, program management, or related field, with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership role.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proven record of developing and managing adult educational programs
- In-depth understanding of CLE accreditation processes and requirements
- Familiarity with trends in legal practice and adult learning principles
- Excellent leadership and organizational skills with a proven history of developing high-performing teams
- Proficiency in the delivery of live, virtual, and hybrid seminars
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe with the ability to quickly learn and teach others new software platforms
- Strong strategic thinking and planning capabilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines and driving results
- Strong analytical skills to evaluate seminar effectiveness, financial viability, and participant engagement with the ability to adjust strategies accordingly

Responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning and Leadership
- Work with senior leadership, develop and implement the strategic vision for the CLE seminars program and provide team vision and alignment with targeted coaching and mentorship to achieve strategic goals
- Align CLE offerings with organizational goals, industry trends, and stakeholder needs
- Assist in the review and development of competitive pricing and support seminar and distance learning program delivery as well as publications sales at in-person seminars and events
- Work with senior leadership to assist with the integration and implementation of technology solutions to support overall operational excellence
- Maintain and enhance positive working relationships with various sections and personnel at the Virginia State Bar and the Virginia Bar Association
- Program Development and Management
- Develop and oversee a diverse range of in-person, virtual, and hybrid CLE seminars
- Partner with Distance Learning team to ensure excellence in virtual seminars delivery and recordings for future webcasts
- Ensure venue and related contracts are cost-effective and enable an optimal learning experience
- Identify emerging topics and trends in legal education to create relevant and innovative programming
- Collaborate with legal experts, speakers, and industry leaders to ensure timely, engaging, and high-quality content
- Collect and analyze participant feedback and program data to assess program effectiveness
- Implement continuous improvements to enhance the quality and impact of CLE seminars
- Develop and manage the CLE program budget to ensure financial sustainability
- Team Leadership
- Train, lead, mentor, and manage a team of Program Planners, Program Specialists, Site Coordinators, and administrative staff
- Foster a culture of excellence, innovation, and collaboration within the team
- Partnerships and Outreach
- Build relationships with law firms, bar associations, and other stakeholders to promote CLE programs
- Expand sponsorship and partnership opportunities to enhance program offerings and reach
