Virginia CLE®, the continuing legal education division of the Virginia Law Foundation (VLF), is looking for an experienced editor to join the publications department.
The VLF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to promoting, through philanthropy, the Rule of Law, access to justice, and law-related education. Through the generosity of our Fellows, donors, and supporters, the Virginia Law Foundation has awarded more than $29.4 million in grants to underwrite projects that facilitate our mission throughout the Commonwealth.
The publications department advances the mission of the organization by producing excellent books and written materials that further the continuing legal education of Virginia lawyers.
The successful applicant will work on-site four days per week at our beautiful office in Charlottesville, Virginia, and will work remotely on Fridays, if desired. Our full-time team members enjoy a competitive salary and an outstanding benefits package, which includes:

Position Summary
The publications editor is responsible for editing and coordinating production of legal handbook manuscripts for print and electronic publication. Salary range $45,000 to $50,000.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Edits and formats text copy for spelling, grammar, punctuation, and style, consulting with authors, legal editors, and style manuals as necessary
- Checks citations to primary law to ensure accuracy
- Electronically organizes and assembles material in standard format and generates tables of contents and tables of authorities
- Produces and proofreads final copy
- Helps to maintain written procedures and checklists for all phases of production and ensures deadlines are met
- Is responsible for shipping books to subscribers and other customers
- Travels when necessary to sell books at seminar locations
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (English, journalism, or related field preferred)
- Minimum of two years of experience editing professional publications or equivalent writing and editing experience
- Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word Office software and Adobe Acrobat and general knowledge of other Windows software
- Excellent attention to detail
- Legal knowledge and familiarity with basic concepts of law is highly preferred
- Valid driver’s license required
